Banks In UK Ready For Brexit?

Published by:

Leonardo Gonzalez Dellan is a successful banker in his early career therefore he recognizes the pressure that is currently felt by financial institutions in the United Kingdom. Only six months left until the deadline given for the Brexit negotiations is coming to an end. As with any major changes, banks are exposed because of operational risks present. The big question now is whether the banks in Great Britain are already prepared for what is coming?

There is nothing concrete that has been announced yet with regards to Brexit negotiations and how things will unfold will determine the future of banks in Britain that are internationally active. The banks and even their regulators did not send out any indication that they are already prepared with the upcoming Brexit. This is why many of the investors are already worried, not to mention the rating agencies.

Ever since the voting that transpired two years ago, United States banks have not shown any indications whether they are already prepared for the upcoming Brexit. According to Basel Committee on Banking Supervision or BCBS, operational risk is a form of loss, whether directly or indirectly, that is the result of failure from internal systems, people or process and it could also be caused by external events.

It is not easy to determine operational risk therefore it is also hard to identify how much capital should be set aside in order for the bank to withstand any losses that might results from the market disruption. Even regulators are not questioning banks as to the provisions they have prepared in order to cover the operational risk that will result from the Brexit negotiations.

Majority of the attention has been shifted towards the economy of the United Kingdom because of the impact of Brexit but what many do not realize is that the problem is not isolated to British banks alone. In fact, according to Leonardo Gonzalez Dellan who is an excellent banker, Brexit is going to change the scene of international financial services. Because of the status of Great Britain in the financial circle, many banks all over the globe should be aware of the impact that Brexit negotiations will have.

Introducing Yale University’s Gender-Neutral Bathrooms

Published by:

The gender-neutral bathrooms in over 23 buildings at Yale University were introduced during its 315th commencement. The university advertised these bathrooms in their website. It included a map of where these bathrooms can be found. School officials mentioned that it is one of the steps to make the school open to its transgender students and staff with their visitors also in mind. Yale also changed a long established rule that now allows its transgender graduates to use their preferred names on their diplomas instead of those in their birth certificates.

According to the dean of Arts and Sciences, Tamar Gendler, the gender-neutral bathroom is about public signaling with Yale wanting to be the leader in this front. Yale’s Equal Opportunity Statement covering all students and employees prohibits discrimination of any kind. A senior who is transitioning as a male mentioned how the transgender community felt a change after Caitlyn Jenner’s transition showed a spotlight for transgender issues. He regards this year as a monumental year in Yale with the amount of changes happening regarding transgender rights.

Professors now address students using preferred pronouns. Yale is also allowing transgender students to modify their identification card names with no charge. Yale’s health plan also covers medical procedures, reassignment surgeries and hormone suppression therapies.

Yale is one of the schools which is changing their rules and policies in relation to transgender rights. The University of Vermont started to address their transgender students with their preferred names and pronouns just last year. In addition, Smith College started accepting students who identify themselves as females even though they were born as males. They made headlines given that they are an all-women’s school. On the other hand, Harvard allows students to use which bathroom they feel comfortable in.

Yale’s gender-neutral bathrooms were once tagged as men’s or women’s rooms. They now say “All Gender Restroom” with figures of a man and a woman next to a figure wearing pants and dress. While these campus bathrooms may not be like home bathrooms with Vanity Units and luxurious furniture but the thought that one can be himself or herself in these bathrooms is just as good as being home.

The Dilemma In Foxtons’ Stocks

Published by:

It was only two year since FOXT or Foxtons, an estate agency in London, was dubbed as short sell because of the floating incident. After that, there was a considerable rise in the earnings after the surge in the London real estate market. Despite the fact of the increase in the property market, there are still some problems occurring which can be viewed as the very reason why stocks continue to fall and should be given more focus.

According to the chart of Foxtons, there was quite an excitement with its sudden rise to 400p last year but then it fell greatly within the same year and ended up to be 148p. The first half of the current year has proven to be a good one for the company because of a slight increase which resulted to 285p. There was an update regarding robust trading last month and yet the price went downhill and is now at 189p.

Foxtons is based in London and focuses more on residential properties but the sales revenue are not even equal to the lettings while mortgage broking has shown to have added a small amount to the total profit. The price of the stocks on the market continued to decline after CWD or Countrywide has issued a statement regarding the expected 14 per cent of sales drop which is based on the UK. The prime central location in London is now being used as an asset in order to increase the prices in UK housing.

According to a data set globally, housing market in London is considered to be the most overvalued. The bubble index set by UBS has rated London at 1.88. Because of the previous rating in 1985 to 2009, it was expected that whenever it reaches more than 1.0, a correction of 30 per cent will take place between one to three years.

Supply in housing is said to be lacking according to politicians, press and estate agents but there are obvious homeowners who have been trying sell for year with no progress. Because of the recent property boom, there are now many property owners who are embarking on projects such as home extensions and improvements in order to profit more. The home extensions and improvement tactic is not only present in London but in other places as well such as Perth.

Housing Prices Slowdown Last April

Published by:

The price among houses in the United Kingdom has experienced the slowest growth in the last nine years this April. This means that other housing refinements and furniture like bathroom furniture, living room fixture as well as bedroom furniture will also be affected. The prices among London housing projects have weakened amid the unfounded fears of an election victory for Labour.

The Office for the National Statistics disclosed to the public that housing prices rose at a yearly rate of about 5.5 percent last April in contrast to a 9.6 percent last March. This reported slowdown was the biggest since the April 2006 statistics.

The cause of the weakening in housing prices

The main cause of the overall weakening of housing prices in the United Kingdom is the significant weakening of the property prices in London. The prices of houses in London grew slower than the average of United Kingdom for the first time ever since 2006. According to market analysts, both buyers and sellers in greater London were concerned before the May election regarding the Labour proposals for the mansion tax.

The Office of National Statistics said that the figures for the month of April continued the weakening of prices trend. This trend started last September 2014 when the inflation in housing prices was as much as 12 percent. The overall housing prices increased slowly in the United Kingdom aside from Northern Ireland. The annual growth in Northern Ireland remained to strengthen as it rose from 7.5 percent to 8.8 percent.

In England, the yearly growth slowed down from 9.4 percent in March to only 5.8 percent in April. In Wales however, the price rose by 1.3 percent from a growth of 5.7 percent. Scotland experienced the greatest slowdown where the growth was only at 2.2 percent compared to a 14.6 percent last March.

The Office of National Statistics said that the United Kingdom housing market has showed signs of slowing down April of this year. In its report, the ONS did not mention anything about the election in the analysis of the figures. However, it said a positive news for the entire UK economy would support the house prices.
