Carpet Cleaners Busy After Heavy Flooding

It is common to see carpet cleaning in Perth being hired for the seasonal clean up needed by our warm rugs at home but when a community is flooded, the business is busier than ever. This is what happened after the wake of the Hurricane Harvey that hit the Houston area.

A local carpet cleaner, Ali Akbarin, said that his warehouse was filled with flooded rugs afterwards as many people called to avail of the carpet cleaning services. His warehouse used to be clean and organize but it was chaos because of the amount of work that needs to be done. Simply put, there is overflowing carpets that require cleaning scattered all over the space.

He shared that the situation is not a normal occurrence because even himself cannot believe with the amount of carpets sent to him. When Hurricane Harvey came, the entire area of Houston was covered with rain as deep as 50 inches. Afterwards, not just homeowners but restoration firms and rug companies have sent him truckloads full of carpets spoiled by the flood.

The hurricane affected over thousands of private homes as well as office establishments. The owners are trying everything they can in order to salvage their precious rugs which they consider as investments. These rugs cost between $1,500 and $20,000 but the value is likely to have decreased greatly because the carpets now have mildew and some of the colors bled due to prolonged exposure to floodwaters.

According to his estimate, Akbarin is now handling a maximum of 400 flooded rugs which has been sent to his place of business. Ever since he opened the carpet cleaning business a decade ago, he has never seen that amount of rug at a single time inside the warehouse.

This goes without saying that the rugs came with a strong smell. It was so strong that it travelled from the warehouse and into the front of the store located in Westheimer Road. This is where Akbarin, along with his families, are receiving their customers.

While other countries are happy to be spared with a misfortune as big as a hurricane, the business of carpet cleaning in Perth continues to thrive as many homeowners own premium rugs that require professional cleaning.
