Yara Shahidi shares how it is for women like hair with natural curls. Everyday struggle have changed because of innovation in hair products such as those used by Bond hair salons in order to transform their clients’ crowning glory. Shahidi said that ever since she was 7 years, it is her routine to visit a hair salon twice a month on a Saturday.
Her hair undergoes washing, conditioning, the hair stylists put rollers on them and she waits while the dryer does its job. After that is hair drying, flat ironing, and curling the ends. She spends four hours in the salon and would finish reading three magazines in that span of time. After the session, she would come out of the salon with hair that is straightand shiny. It does not only make her hair look good, she also feels good and her confidence level is higher.
Shahidi admitted that it was hard for her to maintain the straight hair because she has to avoid water and getting sweaty. This is years ago. Now, it is a different story for women with naturally curly hair.
She said that it was around three years ago when she saw a shift in the society’s outlook in curly hair. Her friends are no longer using hot combs and relaxers. Publications such as Afro Punk and CRWN Magazine are getting more interests with black women showing off their natural hair. The red carpet also started to welcome natural hair.
YaraShahidiis now considered as one of the women behind the natural hair movement. She admitted that her curly took her into a fun ride but a difficult one. The change did not happen overnight but she is happy that she no longer had to rely on flat combs and curling irons. As an actress, she now knows how to take good care of her curls no matter where she is and no matter the time of day.
Black hair products are now available from huge companies such as Carol’s Daughter, DevaCurl and Shea Moisture. These products are now used by hair salons all over the world such as Bondi hair salon in order to help their clients with curly hair maintain its texture and beauty.
