Thailand Hosts Destination Wedding Planners Congress

For tourists visiting the sandy beaches and staying at the luxury suites in Koh Samui, the island’s scenic beachfront views seem like a grand place to hold a luxurious, dream wedding. In addition, it would seem like the Thai Government thinks so too.

The city of Phuket recently played host to the 4th Annual Destination Wedding Planners’ Congress 2017 (DWP Congress 2017 for short), a massive, invitation-only event bringing together the big names of wedding planning, and supplying, as well as leading suppliers into one area. Arriving from more than 65 countries all over the globe, over 450 wedding planners attended the government-hosted event, the first of its like held anywhere in the region, held from May 2-4.

The Tourism Authority of Thailand hosted the event, and has stated that they recognize the importance of wedding and associated revelries when it comes to generating tourist traffic for any destination. They add that they want to develop Thailand, and hope to make it the wedding hub of the Southeast Asian region.

The statement was made by Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul, Minister of Tourism and Sports for Thailand.

She states that Thailand offers a lot as a wedding destination, quoting famous Thai hospitality and food, as well as world-class services and reception. She adds that Thailand also offers a unique, once-in-a-lifetime wedding experience.

The country has been a tourist spot for quite a while now, with lots of tourists coming over to relish in the Bangkok nightlife or enjoy luxury suites in Koh Samui. Recently, however, the country has started to make a name for itself as a romantic destination.

The Director of QnA International, Mr. Akash Jain, the DWP Congress 2017 organizer, reinforced this statement, pointing out that Thailand is indeed well known for its scenery, service and food, making it one of the world’s most popular wedding destinations, to the surprise of very few.

He states that Thailand is the first Asian country to be chosen for the DWP initiative, considering that the prior hosts were Greece, Mauritius and Italy. He adds that that decision will do a lot for the country as a wedding destination.
