If you are a frequent Uber rider then you must have experienced at least once, if not often, that the driver have to drive around a certain location before arriving to the exact one where the blue dot is located.
The ride-sharing company is now happy to announce that they have partnered with DigitalGlobe, developer of space imagery as well as geospatial content, in order to improve the process of identifying, picking up and dropping off of the passengers.
The latest technology will be utilizing the constellation sensors and will be able to access the imagery as well as location intelligence in order to produce high resolution maps of the given area. This will give the driver the capacity to see their exact location as well as where they are going.
According to the Director of Business Development under DigitalGlobe, Kevin Bullock, the company is happy with the new global partnership which will last for years in order for Uber to utilize high resolution images via satellite in their rides. He also added that the imagery will help to further better the experience of not just the riders but also the Uber drivers all over the globe.
DIgitalGlobe has already produced scan of the Earth in cutting edge resolutions and with the highest possible accuracy that can be achieved with today’s technology. The scans were performed on both the visible and nonvisible wavelengths on the planet.
The company is helping customers to understand and have a look at the entire world they are living in and at the same time it was able to make the US government agree the restrictions on image resolutions gathered by private satellites should be lifted. This proposal was granted in 2014 according to a report published by Engadget.
After their proposal was victorious, the firm introduced their fourth generation satellite called WorldView-3 which has the capacity to capture images with very small dimensions. The smallest reported image they could get of the Earth measured 12 inches across. With the revolution in mapping and image capturing, it is still a wonder that map illustrations still play a very important role in many sectors such as a business area, school campus or a town.
