There are only a few boutiques like Dale and Waters who prioritize plus size clothing for plus size women. Because of this, plus size women often have to deal with the difficulty of finding clothes suitable for them. To make matters worse is that even the places where all kinds of clothing should be found, are also making an effort to hide plus size fashion from women.
This issue has been an ongoing problem for women now and finally, it is now grabbing attention. Everyone knows who Melissa McCarthy is. People know her for being the funny and incredible actress in “The Heat,” “Tammy,” and her recent “Spy” movie among many others. But aside from that, she is also known as an advocate for many plus sized women out there.
In fact, she had addressed the issue with plus sized clothing numerous times now and in a recent interview with a certain magazine, she says “Malls are hiding plus sized sections for women.”
Melissa definitely knows the struggle of plus size women. Three years ago when she was nominated for an Oscar, she couldn’t find anyone to design her dress for her. She says she asked three known designers but all of them declined. This is the main reason as to why she had started her own clothing line specifically directed towards women of all sizes. According to her, women don’t stop at size 12, so neither should clothes.
When asked about how there were no noticeable improvements with the shopping experience of plus size women in the past years, she only gave one answer and that is how malls are segregating plus size fashion.
She finds it odd how she could enjoy shopping with her friends when the plus size section you go to is hidden upstairs beside the tire section. The act alone is like putting the store there because they believe that people do not wish to see plus size people and vice versa.
Melissa also said how she would love to be a part of the breaking down of the perception of the country towards women.
Right now, she is preparing for the launch of her clothing line which will be on August.
