How A Facility Was Destroyed After A Boiler Explosion

Three weeks after an explosion occurred at Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services facility in Petersburg, Va. where of most of the buildings were destroyed with 3 employees injured, cleanup has not been completed. During the preliminary cleanup and investigations, it was found out that the blast came from a boiler at the facility.

According to Petersburg Fire Chief Brian Sturdivant, debris on the site has prevented the inspectors to investigate the boiler room and determine the specific cause of the blast. Hopefully, they will be able to access the boiler room after the third phase of cleanup.

Cleanup is being performed in three phases on predetermined areas of the facility to ensure the safety of the cleanup and the deconstruction crew. However, Sturvidant said that based in their preliminary investigation, it was definitely the boiler. A more thorough investigation will be performed as soon as they gain access to the boiler room.

It was two o’clock in the afternoon on March 31 when a call was received from the first responders regarding a blast at the facility of Curtis Bay Medical Waste Services. Firefighters immediately arrived on scene to mitigate the initial incident from a blast containment standpoint. Those that were injured were treated and transported to the nearest hospitals.

Once the firefighters deemed the safety of the structure meaning that electricity and gas were cut off, they left it to Curtis Bay to hire internal employees for cleanup. There was a big debris field not only within the building but the surrounding areas. The explosion has compromised the building resulting into serious structural issues.

The local fire marshal was still in the process of evaluating the structure but it is expected that he will turn it over to building officials for demolition plans.  Fortunately, there were no chemicals or hazardous waste that was released when the one-year old boiler exploded.

Thailand Hosts Destination Wedding Planners Congress

The city of Phuket recently played host to the 4th Annual Destination Wedding Planners’ Congress 2017 (DWP Congress 2017 for short), a massive, invitation-only event bringing together the big names of wedding planning, and supplying, as well as leading suppliers into one area.
