The Benefits Of Safety Reflective Clothing

Published by:

When you live your life doing the same thing every day, waking up at 5 in the morning, going to work, go home before dinner, you would definitely develop a feeling of safety no matter what kind of work you are involved in. However, danger does not choose and it comes whenever it wants to. For office-based workers, the shelter of the office provides less danger and hazards for workers to be worried about. However, not all people work inside the office. There are countless of people who go to work every day, exposing themselves to potential harm. People such as cops, traffic enforcers, construction and factory workers and more all work at dangerous environments.

Luckily, laws and regulations were put in place to protect employees from harm. But know that to be truly safe, one would have to make the effort himself. There are numerous ways that a person can use to increase his safety. Wearing safety reflective clothing is one of them.

There are cases in which safety reflective clothing, or high visibility clothing in general, is required by the law for some occupations. Construction workers and factory workers, for example, are required to wear high visibility clothing. Now, the question is why is visibility so important? Here’s why.

When you are visible to other people, the likelihood for accidents is greatly lessened. Why? Say for example you are running on the road. There is always the potential of a reckless driver not noticing you which could cause you serious harm if circumstances prove unfortunate. However, if you are visible, the driver would be able to see you and thus would try his best to avoid hitting you as much as possible.

In the case you work in a place where it is required to wear such clothing, you would be able to avoid getting a penalty if you follow their clothing requirements. Construction can be quite a dangerous work but visibility allows people to become safe.

For runners, cyclists and other sports enthusiasts, reflective cycling jackets can both prove useful day and night. This is because during the day, the fluorescent material in the jacket makes it appear brighter and striking to the eyes while in the evening, it is able to reflect back the light back to its source.

How Physical Therapy Techniques Help Stroke Patients

Published by:

There is a wide range of Physical Therapy Techniques because each patient has a different condition. For example, the physical therapy exercise required by an athlete that has been injured is different from a patient that has suffered from a stroke. What is important is individualized treatment that is focused on the patient’s recovery process.

Stroke is the leading cause of death in the United States as well as Delaware. In 2013, 409 members of the Delaware population died from stroke. A stroke occurs when the flow of blood to the brain is cut off. Once the brain is deprived of oxygen, it starts to die and without immediate intervention, the patient can suffer from permanent speech, movement and memory damage.

Usually a person who suffers from a stroke is hospitalized for a certain period of time before he moves to inpatient rehab and eventually to outpatient therapy. How long the patient has to undergo physical therapy varies once they are discharged from the hospital but one thing is for certain; the stroke survivor needs to push himself to the limit in order to maximize the recovery of both the brain and the body.

According to an intensive study made by the University of Delaware, stroke survivors still have improvements to their motor functions three to six months after outpatient therapy. The University of Florida also reported similar findings on the June issue of Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

Studies have also found out that after physical therapy, patients nearly doubled their ability to use a stroke-affected arm. At the University of Delaware, former soccer referee Frank Herkes participated in a random double-blind clinical trial to examine how pain-free brain stimulation can improve the outcomes of a fast-paced rehabilitation program. The participants of the study do not know that their brains are being stimulated while they proceed with several rehabilitation exercises and neither do the researchers to obtain a biased-free result.

In total, the University of Delaware is conducting eight studies in order to understand how the brain and nervous system changes after a stroke. Some of the studies focus specifically on mobility and exercise while other studies determine how the brain controls the ability to feel touch.

Introducing The New Duke Eye Center

Published by:

Laser eye treatment is now a commonly sought after treatment and patients can rely on LES Belfast to provide the right eye clinic partner for every need. With the growing demand for eye surgeries, more and more eye centers are popping up in every parts of the world and the Duke Eye Center is one of them. Duke is now ready to welcome their newest addition which is the Duke Eye Center. It is a 116,000-square-foot establishment and is boasted by the ophthalmology chairman as the one that will have the biggest impact under his department. This is because of the fact that there is a much bigger space and the experience patient will undergo will be like no other.

Dr. Edward Buckley explained that because of the project which cost around $45 million, they will be able to accept twice the number of patients. Workers were busy transferring equipment last weekend and getting them into the recently built Hudson Building. The clinic already opened its doors for their first patients just this Monday.

Buckley expressed that the new establishment is another step up compared to the current facilities which have been in the area since the early 1970s. The existing was designed as an ophthalmology department but it can only house 12 clinicians. As of the moment, there are now 50 working clinicians in the department.

The financing was from charitable donations and amounts to a total of $27.5 million. The largest donation was from LC Industries in Durham worth $16 million. The Duke Eye Clinic is facing Erwin Road and it has around 53 examination rooms.

The designers of the new building were careful in choosing decors and layouts that will suit the needs of those patients whose visions are not perfect. Two of the special rooms inside the building include a rehabilitation space and laser eye surgery room. Diane Whitaker explains that thought there is enough space inside the building, every inch will be used. One good example is a stairwell which is commonly used as a utility in some office buildings but at Duke Eye Clinic, it will be used by workers to help train blind patients in moving around staircases.

The Evolution Of Smart Desks

Published by:

Executive desks are now given a makeover because of the latest innovation in this piece of office furniture. The now popular design is desks that have adjustable heights and is being adapted by many businesses around the world.

After this new design comes a more advanced variation from Netherlands – a smart desk that lights up and is constructed with charging outlets for smartphones, sensors for magic hand, a prompter for the room temperature as well as comments on the number of calories burned by the employee for standing at a period of time.
Marcel Demper, the founder of MisterBrightLight, expressed how his company wanted to design furniture that is not only health but more fun. The adjustable height desks made by their company is not only meant to be an eye candy but it offers a lot of functionality especially when it comes to technical side.

Marcel shared how he came to design such desks and it is in his aim to improve the wellness of employees especially those who are in the office from 9 to 5. Aside from that, he also wants workers to have the practice of moving around the office and it should be a routine and not just something they are obliged to do.

Marcel expressed his vision which is to help individuals gradually change their perspective towards office works and that they have to stand up more often not because someone tells them it is the healthy thing to do but they have experienced it first hand and how good it felt. Although he recognizes that there are already many options when it comes to adjustable height desks, there is something missing which they have integrated into the furniture which is the fun part. The added features that were equipped in the MisterBrightLight sets it aparat from other desks.

The fun part includes customization so it can follow the company brand or colors. The magic hand sensor included in the desk works by waving your hand and the desk will automatically change height. The lighting of the desk can also be adjusted, as well as the brightness and the color. Charger for smartphones are also included as well as a function that gives user the ability to know the room temperature, humidity and level of oxygen in the air.

The Humble Beginnings Of Maama Lususu In Uganda

Published by:

It is wrong to use a hand lotion on the body because cosmetics have different functions. There are cosmetics for the face, Organic Hand cream for the hands and lotion for the body and feet. A flawless skin is always trendy but very often women forget to look at the labels on the tins.

In downtown Kampala you can ask any woman about locally mixed creams and facials and they will direct you to a shop located in Galilaya Commercial Plaza on William Street that is owned by Irene Nalubwama or more popularly known as Maama Lususu.

Maama Lususu came from humble beginnings. In 2002, a friend introduced Nalubwama to a Lebanese man who was importing creams and lotions from Lebanon. Business was bad for the Lebanese and he needed someone to sell the lotions door-to-door. Women tend to be interested in skin lightening creams but the Lebanese creams were all natural and did not contain hydroquinone. It was difficult to make a sale.

Eventually Nalubwama became curious about the product and asked the Lebanese to explain the ingredients. The imported creams were not ideal because they were meant for people with fair skin. The creams were too weak for people with dark skins who did not know how to wash properly. To make them better, the Lebanese added a mixture of ingredients that included eggs, honey and ghee.

Armed with knowledge, Nalubwama saved enough to buy cosmetics from the Lebanese as his agent in 2008. With a friend, she rented a shop in the New Taxi Park where she mixed her creams while the friend operated a salon. The friend convinced her customers to buy creams and lotions from Nalubwama.

Nalubwama followed what the Lebanese taught her and used fruits for ingredients. Before she recommends a treatment, she checks on the skin to make sure it is a cosmetic problem. Nalubwama worked harder than most people and with her profits she invested in real estate business.

People continued to talk to Nalubwama about their skin problems and though the Raypercia Cosmetics Company is fully registered, it does not produce in bulk. There is a name to protect and she still advises women not to lighten their complexion further.

Yo-Yo Diets Leading To More Weight Gain

Published by:

A recent study has discovered that yo-yo dieting, or the reoccurring cycle of losing weight and gaining it, may just only result to more weight gain when the diet is completed.

The study, which was published in the Evolution, Medicine and Public Health journal, manifested that repeated dieting can be regarded by the brain like short famines. Because of this, the brain encourages the body to store additional fat for any future shortage. This results to repeated dieters gaining more weight in comparison to those that never diet.

Repeated dieting as short famines

Professor John McNamara from the University of Bristol’s School of Mathematics explained in a press release that their model displays that weight gain is not a malfunction of people’s physiology. He added that the brain can be working perfectly, however uncertainty regarding food supplies prompts an evolved reaction to gain more weight.

For the study, researchers did an analysis of mathematical models of animals, with birds as an example. These animals are aware when food is abundant and when it is also limited. However, they are unaware when it will go from being abundant to scarce. Because of this, the birds have to know about changeability prior to determining how fat they need to be.

With the researchers observing how animals responded to food storage declining, they understood why people, those under yo-yo diets, were likely to fail in their weight loss plans.

Since the brain regards a diet as a kind of food shortage, it encourages the body to take more food when a diet is finished.

In addition, the brain continually encourages the body to take more food as a diet progresses, and the urge to do so is less likely fulfilled since the brain is already convinced about famines reoccurring.

Conclusion

This is the reason that choosing a diet plan is very crucial. Unlike other diet supplements, an HCG supplement works to keep the weight off, since it re-tunes the body to take energy coming from the excess fat. It is a long term solution for weight loss even after the HCG diet is completed.

Body Weight Is Not The Fundamental Measurement Of Health

Published by:

Many people who use the bathroom scale are wondering why they do not lose weight when they are exercising, sleeping and eating properly. The common misconception is that body weight is the fundamental measurement of health. Billboard advertisements, books and weight loss supplements have advanced the cause that losing weight means health and gaining weight is the opposite.

The total body mass can be misleading particularly in terms of fitness. Research suggests that in terms of health and longevity, the important measurement is body composition or how much fat and lean muscle an individual has.

A group of researchers have advised doctors, journalists and everybody to stop using the term overweight to stop people from becoming passionate about bathroom scales because the obsession becomes a bigger problem than the weight itself. Total weight of an individual is the most common data point that is used in assessing health.

An individual is classified as overweight if the BMI is greater than 24 and obese when the BMI is more than 29. The scientific community has long accepted that BMI is imperfect otherwise bodybuilders can be classified as obese even if they have more muscle than dense fat. People with low BMI or normal body weight are not as healthy as suggested because it is not diagnostic of the health of an individual.

Almost all researches on health and fitness are oriented on body weight and preventing cardio-metabolic disease based on BMI. However, individuals who are overweight or obese make better informed choices and follow meaningful health goals because of the statistics that they are more prone to heart diseases.

The best example is that females tend to have more fat than males and yet they live longer. The line between overweight and normal weight vary from population to population and there are different techniques that can be considered as a reliable to measure weight.

Sometimes, the problem is not actually weight loss but the annoying layer of belly fat. Through the HCG weight loss diet of lean meat, fruits and vegetables, rapid reduction in weight can be experienced. The embarrassing belly fat is lost because it naturally burns into energy.
