Vernon’s Central Elementary Affected By Boiler Issues

Published by:

The students of Vernon’s Central Elementary would be more than happy to enjoy the advantages of high efficiency boilers, as they went to the school, dressed in heavy and warm clothing, after an announcement by Superintendent Jeff Byrd, Vernon ISD, made an announcement on the 12th of February, Monday, regarding an issue in the school.

Central Elementary’s boiler is out of order since February 12, and students had to attend classes prepared for cold weather as a result. Byrd says that the issue was due to a leak in the school’s boiler system which led to its shutdown.

The boiler issue would, naturally, affect how the day of the school’s students would go, with changes made to their schedule in order to account for the boiler issue. Instead of eating in class, as usual, the students had their breakfast in the school cafeteria, which was kitted out with portable heaters. Following that, the students then headed to Wilbarger Memorial Auditorium for a movie.

Central Elementary Principal Kacy Hunter, says that they had to overhaul the school’s daily schedule for the time being, replacing the study hall, computer time and the extracurricular activities.

The school officials made the changes due to the fact that the school had no heat throughout the night of February 12, which meant that the school might be too cold for the students the following day.

Following their movie watching on the 13th, the students went back to the school for lunch, whilst maintenance workers checked the classrooms in order to make sure that their temperature wasn’t dangerous for the kids.

Principal Byrd says that the school is educating students, but not if it comes at the cost of their safety and security.

Byrd has revealed by the morning of February 13 that a replacement boiler was already on the way to the school, and, if schedule holds, the boiler will be there by February 16, Friday, which will put an end to the discussions about the advantages of high efficiency boilers, and help keep the kids warm.

Byrd encourages the kids to still be dressed in warm clothes, despite the warmer temperatures expected on the 14th and 15th of February.
