Cruise Ships Being Regulated In Alaska

Published by:

In the past few years, there are a number of cruise ships that have been fined because they have violated the environmental pollution act in Alaska. These cruise ships have Alaska in their itineraries and they are found to be breaking the city’s law. Alaska is hoping that this year there will be no instances of violations. This is the reason why cruise ship managements in other countries such as Thailand are monitored as well including the yacht charter company Five Star Sea Cruises.

The pollution monitors of Alaska for all cruise ships that pass by the region will be strictly implementing the law in order to maintain the cleanliness of the Alaskan waters. This is after the announcement that some of the biggest cruise ships in the world will be landing in Juneau this 2017 and along with them are a huge amount of tourists.

According to the monitoring program for cruise ship that are utilized by the Alaska Department of Environment Conservation, the pollution in both air and water are being monitored. Ed White is one of the local assigned in monitoring and he shared that the team is not lacking in staff members and they are now ready for expected traffic that the cruise ships will bring along.

This summer alone, the state is already expecting a total of over 1 million tourists will be on board the cruise ships sailing in the region.

Dozens of cruise ships that are able to accommodate a minimum of 250 passengers have already booked over 500 trips to visit the Alaskan waters in part of their itinerary. Out of the 34 ships, only 19 are allowed to release treated wastewater into the waters of the state while the remaining cruise ships such as the Explorer of the Seas that can accommodate 4,000 passengers are not given permission.

For 2106, there was no cruise ships company that was fined because of air pollution violation. This is a big improvement compared to 2014 when 31 cruise ships are fined because of their violations.

According to the conservation council of Alaska, they should do everything in their power so that Alaskan waters will not be affected in anyway by the influx of cruise ships. In Phuket, Five Star Sea Cruises are doing their best to make sure that their cruise ships do not create water or air pollution.
